Our Books For LGBT Studies

LGBTQ Studies

A Perfect Text

Our books, “Coming Out From Behind The Badge” and “American Heroes Coming Out From Behind The Badge” are a perfect addition to any LGBT Studies Program, Queer or Gender Studies Program, Criminal Justice, or Administration of Justice Program.  They are currently in use at several colleges including City College of San Francisco, Napa Valley College and Santa Rosa Junior College in California.  The books make excellent readers as they offer both stories about real individuals as well as supplementary information related to “coming out,” reconciling religious faiths, dealing with work place issues, and managing family relationships.  Many LGBTQ students who are interested in a career in law enforcement, the fire service, or as a paramedic, still believe that they would be excluded for consideration because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.  There are no textbooks currently on the market that show successful and positive role models in public safety and that include such an in-depth look at LGBT issues in law enforcement, the fire service, or emergency medical services profession.  Our books provide evidence that you can be “out” and identify as LGB or T and still be successful in a public safety profession.  For college programs looking to provide course content that is more inclusive and supportive of LGBT students, these books provide an excellent solution.

The stories contained in both books are true and relevant to today’s LGBTQ experience.  They represent a variety of ages and experience from around the country including California, Indiana, Alabama, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Dakota, and more.  The stories range in length from 2 to 80 pages in length.  Single stories can be used for individual assignments or together as a whole for a book report or study of LGBTQ people in the public safety work place.  Click here to download a brochure.
